Tannbach Castle

The first documented mention of the castle as a free seat dates to around 1400, when Ulrich Galsberger is named as owner in Duke Albrecht's feudal register. In 1459, Mathes Chienast acquired the complex, which remained in family possession until about 1550. After a brief interlude under the Weissenauer family, who acquired Tannbach around 1550, the castle passed to Ernst Hack von Bornimb. Further changes of ownership followed, including Count Johann Karl von Thürheim and Johann Karl Mauer von Hohenstegen. Through marriage, it came into the possession of Philipp von Frey, who died in 1730. In 1756, a Hack von Bornimb was again the owner. In 1787, Bartholomäus Kiendler acquired the property, followed by Karl Pfülb von Ehrenheim in 1805.
