Tausendlust Castle

Tausendlust Castle is a two-story (three-story) building and is still largely in its original condition today. Only a side wing and the tower were demolished in 1799 and 1823.

The castle was built in the second half of the 16th century by Alexander Rüdt von Khollenburg under the name Altenburg. Probably there was already a medieval castle complex at this location, but its existence has not yet been proven. In 1605, the property went to Adam Gabelkhofer. His daughter sold the estate in 1650 together with the dairy, the cellar and the wine press to Christof Rudolf Freiherr von Eibiswald. Since he could not keep the castle due to the low income from viticulture, it returned to its original owners just one year later. Two decades later, the property came into the possession of Johann Caspar von Kellersperg. The Kellersperg family were the lords of the castle for about 250 years. In 1825, the tower was destroyed by lightning and subsequently demolished. In 1878 it is mentioned that the castle was largely dilapidated and only served as a winery. Today it is privately owned and is being renovated.
