Tentschach Castle
Tentschach Castle is a historical building in the northwest of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, the capital of Carinthia. Originally a medieval castle, it was transformed into a stately palace in the 16th century.
History+
The origins of Tentschach Castle date back to the 13th century when it was built as a fortress. The Tentschacher family is documented as owners between 1269 and 1359. Around 1480, ownership passed to Wilhelm Rumpf von Wulroß, before it was acquired by Servatius Pibriacher in 1493. The Pibriacher family was largely responsible for converting the castle into a palace around 1570. In 1582, they sold the estate to Hans Pruggmayer. Later, in 1689, it came into the possession of Count Attems, who passed it on to Ludwig Kließ, the provost of Tainach. Subsequently, the castle changed hands to the Kaiserstein family and, through the marriage of Philippine von Kaiserstein to Georg Göschen, finally to the Goschen family.
