Teublitz Castle

The current Teublitz Castle was built in the second half of the 18th century, specifically between 1750 and 1780, under the aegis of Karl Wilhelm Teufel von Pirkensee. He took his own life in the new building in 1780. It is believed that there was a predecessor building at this site or in its immediate vicinity, though its exact location remains unclear. Remains of an older complex are suspected both in the current ruin in the city park and on the Schwedenschanze. The castle once included an estate with landholdings and a park. Around 1800, Conrad Reinhard Ritter von Koch redesigned this park into an English landscape garden, creating a lake with an island and a monopteros. The owners of the castle were also the judicial lords of Teublitz until 1848.
