Thannegg Castle

The origins of the estate date back to 1150, when an old castle with a tower and St. Michael's Church was mentioned. In the early 14th century, the Wildon family enfeoffed Eckbert von Thann with properties in Sölk, who possibly began the expansion into a noble residence. After several changes of ownership, including the Bishop of Chiemsee, the castle came into the possession of Bartholomäus von Moosheim in 1529. His grandson Benedikt expanded the estate with two side wings in the late 16th century. Financial difficulties and natural disasters led the Moosheim family to sell the castle to Franz Schörkhmayr in 1642. In 1911, the municipality of Michaelerberg acquired the building and used it as a poorhouse. After a partial demolition in 1941, where stones were used for road construction, Ernst and Gerlinde Schrempf acquired the ruined complex in 1984/85 and revitalized it into a castle hotel.
