Nestled in a valley basin amidst the Styrian landscape, Thannhausen Castle rises. This impressive Renaissance castle, whose history dates back to the 12th century, is a testament to bygone eras and impresses with its architectural elegance.

History+

The origins of Thannhausen Castle stretch far back, as a fortification named Trennstein Castle was already mentioned at this location in 1177. The current Renaissance castle was built on the foundations of a former Roman country house, a so-called Villa Rustica. Johann von Teufenbach commissioned the construction of the castle, and an inscription next to the portal, bearing the year 1585, testifies to this construction phase. Since 1806, the estate has been owned by the Imperial Barons of Gudenus.
