Early History and Construction
Schloss Thannhausen is located in the municipality of Thannhausen in Styria. The Renaissance castle lies in a valley basin and was first mentioned in 1177 as Burg Trennstein. The castle was built by Johann von Teufenbach on the site of a former Roman country house, a villa rustica. A building inscription with the date 1585 is located next to the portal. Since 1806, the castle has been owned by the Imperial Barons of Gudenus.
