Therasburg Castle

The first documented mention of Therasburg Castle occurred in 1327, when it was owned by Ortlieb Zvendel von Teraczpurch. By the end of the 14th century, the complex passed into the direct possession of the Counts of Hardegg-Plain. In 1430, Jan von Fladnitz served as the castle administrator for these counts. A dark episode for the castle began in 1473, when it served as a base for the robber knight Kratzer's raids. In 1523, the castle was conquered by imperial troops. Knight Jakob von Raming, a colonel, had the castle converted into a Renaissance palace in 1574. During the Thirty Years' War, Therasburg was destroyed in 1645 by Swedish troops under General Lennart Count Torstensson. In 1674, Georg Julius Freiherr von Gilleis acquired the property. In 1823, Joseph Count von Gilleis was listed as the owner. Later, the last Gilleis, Julius von Gilleis, leased and then sold the castle to his son-in-law Hermann von Attems.
