In Kümmersbruck-Theuern, in the Amberg-Sulzbach district in Bavaria, stands Theuern Castle, a late Baroque building. It today houses a museum and a cultural center.

History+

The first documented mention of Theuern and a family "von Theuern" dates back to 1092. At the current site of the castle, a hunting lodge was already built in 1682 by Johann Georg Portner, with the Portner family having owned the hammer mill estate since 1518. The foundation stone for the current late Baroque castle was laid on August 25, 1780, by the builder Joseph Christian von Lochner, integrating the older hunting lodge into the new construction. The Electoral master builder Wolfgang Diller from Amberg was commissioned for the design of the hammer mill owner's castle.
