On the left bank of the Zihl, between 1270 and 1300, the moated castle (1311 chastel du pont de Tele) was built to protect the bridge. It was the seat of a Neuchâtel castellany until 1807; from 1860 it was privately owned. Thielle Castle, built in the 13th century with late Gothic and Baroque additions, came to lie on the right bank with the construction of the Zihl Canal in 1883 and was assigned to the Canton of Bern and the municipality of Gals in the border agreement with Neuchâtel in 1894.
