Thienhausen Castle, a moated castle in the Weser Renaissance style, is located in the Rolfzen district of the town of Steinheim in North Rhine-Westphalia. The two-winged complex is situated in the valley of the Holmbach stream.

History+

The origins of Thienhausen Castle date back to an older complex, which Tönnis Wolf von Haxthausen integrated into the construction of the present castle in 1609. In 1840, August von Haxthausen acquired the estate together with his brother from a Danish branch of the family and moved in. Between 1867 and 1887, the poet Friedrich Wilhelm Weber lived at the castle with his family and created his work “Dreizehnlinden” there. After a fire in 1905, the building was renovated in the Renaissance style. Since then, it has remained continuously in the possession of the Barons von Haxthausen.
