Thurnhof Castle

As early as 1150, a "Fortified House" is mentioned in Linsberg. A "Pernhardus de Linsperge" resided here. He is mentioned as a witness in two documents. Presumably, he was a vassal of the neighboring Counts of Pitten. The "Fortified House", also known as "Thurnhof", was intended to contribute to securing the border against Hungary, along with numerous other objects. In 1266, the wife of Heinrich von Stubenberg acquired the "free Turmhof of Linsberg". In 1317, it is mentioned as a knight's seat. From 1402 to 1460, Linsberg belonged to the Grymm family.

In 1463, Emperor Frederick III acquired the medieval residence. In 1476, he enfeoffed it to the Augustinian Canons of Wiener Neustadt. From them, it passed to the Diocese of Wiener Neustadt in 1551. Turkish raiding parties caused severe devastation in 1683. Bishop Franz Anton von Puchheim had these damages repaired. In 1718, the court master Martin Franz Bärtl bought the property. He had the current Baroque castle built. Between 1754 and 1848, the owners changed quite frequently. Among them were well-known noble houses such as the Starhemberg, Schlaberndorf, and Auersperg.

In 1863, Baron Louis Haber bequeathed the lordship to the Schenker family, who still own the castle today. In the immediate post-war period of 1945, the main building was plundered and devastated. It was restored and is inhabited today.
