Thurnmühle Castle

The first documented mention of the complex, then known as "de Prato," occurred in 1162. Later, in 1269, it was referred to as "Porz." At the beginning of the 14th century, the Porz fortress came into the possession of the Lords of Ebersdorf. Historical records indicate destructions in 1318 and 1529. In 1689, Imperial Count Karl Maximilian von Thurn und Valsassina acquired the property and had the mill and the castle rebuilt, from which its current name is derived. The Orientalische Compagnie took over ownership in 1725, followed by the k.k. privileged Kattunfabrik in 1745, which erected factory buildings in place of the mill. From 1902, Thurnmühle housed a metalware factory and served as its administrative building. A restoration took place around 1980.

Thurnmühle Castle is situated in Schwechat in the district of Wien-Umgebung in Lower Austria, Austria, at an elevation of approximately 169 meters above sea level.
