Tidö Castle

Tidö Castle, an impressive historical structure, rises southwest of Västerås in the Swedish region of Västmanland. It is known for its well-preserved architecture and its long history, dating back to the 15th century.
History+
The first documented mention of Tidö as a possession dates back to Ivar Magnusson Gren, who died after 1495. In 1537, his daughter sold the estate to Queen Margareta Eriksdotter. Just three years later, in 1540, the property passed to Göran Åkesson. His sister Christina, married to Johan Bååt, inherited the estate. Later, in 1610, his granddaughter Anna, who had been married to Axel Oxenstierna since 1608, inherited the property. Axel Oxenstierna had the current castle built between 1625 and 1645. Over the centuries, ownership changed frequently, including prominent families such as Oxenstierna, Soop von Limingo, Dohna, Ridderstolpe, and Treschow. In 1889, Carl David von Schinkel purchased the castle, which is now owned by David and Christina von Schinkel. An original 15th-century castle still exists as a ruin near the current castle.
