In the Weimar district of Tiefurt, Tiefurt Castle is a country estate on the Ilm River. Once the summer residence of Duchess Anna Amalia of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach, it is now part of the “Classical Weimar” UNESCO World Heritage ensemble.

History+

The building, originally a tenant house of a ducal estate from the late 16th century, was rebuilt and expanded in 1765. It consists of a main building with seven rooms on the upper floor and a smaller annex, connected by a covered passage. In 1776, Duke Carl August's brother Konstantin established his court here. Four years later, Duchess Anna Amalia chose the castle as her summer residence, making it a meeting point for the Weimar Muses' Court.
