In Waldshut-Tiengen, Baden-Württemberg, Tiengen Castle once served as the administrative seat of the Landgraviate of Klettgau. The complex, situated on a hill approximately ten meters above the historic old town, is now owned by the Federal Republic of Germany.

History+

The castle's origins date back to the 11th century, when the old tower, also known as the Old or Small Castle, was built as a defensive and residential tower by the Barons of Krenkingen. Although severely damaged in the Swiss War, it was rebuilt under Johann Ludwig I von Sulz. The New Castle was first mentioned in 1575 and constructed by the brothers Wilhelm and Alwig von Sulz, with the completion of the entire complex, including gardens, taking until 1619. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle burned down between 1641 and 1648 but was completely rebuilt shortly thereafter.
