Tigring Castle

Tigring Castle is located just outside the village of Tigring in the municipality of Moosburg in Carinthia. The castle, built by Johann Ernst Teutenhofen in the 1660s on the site of a manor house, has served as a district retirement home since 1967.

The three-story building with a central risalit has stair wings in the middle of the north side. The three-axis, elevated central part of the southern main facade is accentuated by a triangular gable with a painted coat of arms and framing pilasters. The windows of the second floor alternately feature triangular and basket-arch gables. The staircase is barrel-vaulted. One room on the ground floor and two rooms on the first floor are equipped with ceiling stucco from 1660. The stucco in one room forms a coat of arms cartouche with the Teutenhofen coat of arms, festoons, tendrils, winged herms, and roosters in the corners. In the second room, eight eagles are depicted, their wings each enclosing a medallion.
