A castle is already mentioned in 1122 as being in the possession of the Schenken von Tögling, who held the office of Schenk (cup-bearer) for the Counts of Gröbling-Hirschberg since 1250. In 1480, the castle was rebuilt as a four-wing complex with a keep. In 1521, the Schenken von Tögling died out. In 1584, ownership transferred to the Prince-Bishopric of Eichstätt, and the castle became the seat of an episcopal administrative office. After the secularization in 1802, the castle passed to the Bavarian state. In 1870, the castle tower was demolished. In 1985, the castle was acquired and renovated by the city of Dietfurt.
