Trabelsdorf Castle

The origins of Trabelsdorf date back to the time of Bishop Otto I (1102–1139), when Count Berthold Berchtheim donated an estate in the area to Michaelsberg Monastery in Bamberg. Around 1150, the Lords of Thüngfeld also took possession of Trabelsdorf. After the extinction of this family, the property passed to the Miltz family. In 1536, the von Münster family received Trabelsdorf as a fief and introduced the Reformation. Eyrich von Münster had a church built in 1570, making Trabelsdorf a Protestant enclave in a predominantly Catholic area. In 1664, the von Münster family sold the estate to the Marschalk von Ostheim family. They had the existing moated castle demolished around 1700 and replaced it with the current palace.
