Trabelsdorf Castle

Trabelsdorf, formerly a knightly estate, then an independent municipality until 1976, is now a district of the municipality of Lisberg in the Bamberg district. The administrative seat of the Lisberg administrative community is located in Trabelsdorf Castle.

According to a deed of gift from Count Berthold Berchtheim, who donated his estate near Trageboldestorf to the Michaelsberg Monastery in Bamberg, it dates from the time of Bishop Otto I (1102–1139).

In 1150, the Lords of Thüngfeld also took possession of Lisberg and Trabelsdorf. With the extinction of the Thünfeld/Lisberg family, Trabelsdorf passed to the Miltz family. In 1536, the Münster family took Trabelsdorf as a fief. The Reformation was introduced and Eyrich von Münster had a church built in 1570. Trabelsdorf, along with several other knightly estates, is a Protestant enclave in the predominantly Catholic area.

In 1664, the Münster family sold the estate and lordship of Trabelsdorf-Dankenfeld to the Marschalk von Ostheim family. The moated castle, which still existed at that time, was demolished around 1700 and replaced by the existing castle.

The poet Charlotte von Kalb (1761–1843), a close friend of Friedrich Schiller and other great German poets, was a frequent guest in this castle building.

The Trabelsdorf knightly estate remained in the possession of the Marschalk von Ostheim family until 1874 when it passed into private hands through sale.

After the incorporation, the municipality of Lisberg was able to acquire the castle and establish it as the town hall of the Lisberg-Trabelsdorf administrative community.
