Train Castle

The origin of Train is the moated castle, which was built around the turn of the millennium. At that time, the place was called Hittinburg, before it was renamed Train in the 13th century. Among the owners of the former Hofmark castle are several important noble lords, including the Pfeffenhauseners and Feurers, the knightly family of Eckher von Kapfing, and Baron von Deuring, who founded the castle benefice in 1722. The castle was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, but then rebuilt by the Eckhers.

During the rule of the castle lady Elisabeth von Train, which lasted from 1788 to 1807, two popular uprisings occurred. It was not until 1980 that the former benefice of Train, which had developed from the former castle chapel foundation, was elevated to a parish.

The castle includes a beautiful pilgrimage chapel, whose Rococo altar was created by the Landshut master Christian Jorhan (the Elder). The black Madonna, revered as miraculous - a replica of the Altötting statue of grace carved in 1683 - attracted many believers around 1700. Pilgrimages from sometimes distant parishes came almost daily.
