In Thalheim bei Wels, Upper Austria, on the edge of the Traun terrace, stands Traunegg Castle, a structure with baroque facades. Originally built in the 16th century, it has undergone transformations and now serves as a residential complex.

History+

The history of Traunegg Castle dates back to 1283, when a manor house belonging to the Polheim family was first documented on this site. Around 1412, the estate came into the possession of the merchant family Erdinger and was subsequently known as Erdingerhof. In 1577, Bernhard Jörger von Tollet erected the current castle and received permission from Emperor Rudolf II to elevate it to a noble seat exempt from taxes, which was then named Trauneckhof. Jörger sold the property in 1587 to Ludwig Althamer, whose son passed it on to Matthias Castner in 1643.
