Tremsbüttel Castle

The origins of Tremsbüttel date back to the 13th century, when a moated castle belonging to the von Wedel family stood on this site. Ownership changed frequently, resulting in Tremsbüttel belonging alternately to Holstein and Lauenburg, and undergoing various legal statuses, from noble court to ducal office. In the 16th century, the original moated castle was expanded into a ducal hunting lodge. In the mid-17th century, the estate passed to the Ahlefeld family and later to Magnus von Wedderkop.
