Trostberg Castle
The castle is first mentioned in 1233, when its owner Duke Otto the Illustrious fortified the castle to protect it against the invasion of the Austrians under Field Captain Duke Frederick the Warlike. The castle was built in the mid-12th century under the Counts of Ortenburg-Kraiburg. In 1392, ownership transferred to the Landshut Dukes.
After 1442, the castle lost its importance as the Bavarian-Austrian border was shifted further east. In 1504, the castle was occupied by imperial troops during the War of the Landshut Succession. In 1803, after the abolition of the district court, the castle was auctioned off. In 1810, the NE part of the castle was demolished. In 1986, the castle was restored and is now in private ownership.
