In the eponymous district of the municipality of Mistelgau in the Bavarian district of Bayreuth, Truppach Castle, a historic fortified complex, is located. It once served as the seat of lower noble families.

History+

The Truppach family, first documented in 1059, were originally vassals of the Walpots and later established themselves as imperial ministerials. In 1380, a moated castle in Truppach was owned by Conrad the Elder of Christanz. The Bayreuth land register from 1499 listed two noble residences for Truppach, one of which belonged to the Truppach family but was abandoned shortly thereafter. The Truppach family, who belonged to the Gebürg knight canton, died out in 1550. The castle was destroyed in 1523 by troops of the Swabian League.
