Tümpling Castle
Schloss Tümpling, a historic structure with defensive cellars, is located in the town of Dornburg-Camburg in the Saale-Holzland district of Thuringia. It is situated on a spur-like hill east of the Saale river and is surrounded by a garden and park.
History+
Schloss Tümpling was originally a fortified manor house belonging to the von Tümpling family. This noble lineage is documented as castellans of Camburg Castle as early as 1300 and appears multiple times in Jena documents from the 14th century onwards. In 1945, the von Tümpling family was dispossessed and expelled by the communists. Following German reunification in 1993, descendants of the family reacquired the castle and immediately commenced extensive reconstruction efforts.
