In Wegberg-Tüschenbroich in the Heinsberg district, North Rhine-Westphalia, Schloss Tüschenbroich is a historic castle complex. Originally emerging from a Carolingian motte, it now presents itself as a moated castle.

History+

The roots of Schloss Tüschenbroich date back to the 9th century, when a fortified water castle with a defensive mound, a so-called motte, was built on this site. This complex, first mentioned in documents as "Thuschinbroc" in 1172, formed the nucleus of the later castle. During the Thirty Years' War, the existing buildings were completely destroyed by fire. In 1624, Franz von Spiering acquired the war-damaged property.
