Tüßling Castle
A four-winged complex with distinctive corner towers and onion domes is located in the market town of Tüßling in the Upper Bavarian district of Altötting. It is a Renaissance castle, particularly due to its inner courtyard with arcades.
History+
The construction of Tüßling Castle took place between 1581 and 1583, commissioned by Johann Veith Graf von Toerring. Although the castle was damaged by fire in 1712 and later underwent Baroque alterations, its exterior has largely been preserved. In 1725, Ferdinand Marquard Joseph Graf von Wartenberg had the north wing converted into a large ballroom. The castle chapel of St. Vitus in the east wing, dating from the 17th century, was renovated after the 1712 fire. During renovation work in the 1960s, a Romanesque stone altar was discovered beneath the Baroque altar.
