Ulenburg Castle

The castle's origins trace back to a manor farm called Ulenhof, which was owned by the von Quernheim family in the late Middle Ages. In 1469, the farm was conquered by Bernhard VII zur Lippe, making the Quernheims vassals of the Counts zur Lippe. Between 1568 and 1570, Hilmar von Quernheim converted the farm into a moated castle. After his death in 1581, the Bishop of Minden attempted to forcibly seize the property. Twelve years later the Counts zur Lippe regained possession after negotiations. In 1613, Philipp Eberhard von Wrede acquired the castle, which was then sold to the von Ledebur family in 1711. In 1745, the Ulenburg and Beck estates were united under Werner Heinrich Christoph von Wulfen.
