On the southern shore of Lake Ulrichshusen lies Ulrichshusen Castle, a Renaissance building in Mecklenburg. With its three-story main building and stepped gables, it now serves as a hotel.

History+

The castle's origins date back to 1562, when Ulrich Moltzan established a knight's estate and had a moated castle built there. After a fire in 1624, Bernd-Ludolph Maltzan oversaw its reconstruction and enlargement. In 1649, the castle was pledged for 30 years to the Swedish General Carl Didriksson Ruth, before returning to the Maltzahn family in 1742. In the 19th century, ownership changed several times, including to the Hahn-Basedow line and later to the Counts of Bassewitz-Schlitz. In the early 20th century, German tennis champion Count Viktor Eugen Voß resided at the castle.
