Ulvsunda Castle

Ulvsunda Castle, originally conceived as an aristocratic residence, is a privately owned estate in the Bromma district of Stockholm.
History+
The construction of Ulvsunda Castle took place between 1644 and 1647 under Field Marshal Lennart Torstensson. The building of the castle was part of a prestige competition with Privy Councillor Åke Axelsson, the builder of Åkeshov Castle. Initially, the castle presented itself in the German-Dutch Renaissance style with a steep copper roof and facades adorned with frescoes of Roman warriors. The Torstensson family lost the estate in 1772, after which it passed through the hands of various noble families such as Bielke, Gyllenkrook, Rudenschöld, and Ruuth. At the beginning of the 19th century, Baron von Essen had the roof renewed and the wall paintings plastered over. Gustaf Åkerhielm, who was Swedish Prime Minister from 1889 to 1891, was the last noble owner.
