Unterdürnbach Castle
Unterdürnbach Castle is a late Renaissance structure, later baroque-styled. It is located on the southeastern edge of the cadastral community of Unterdürnbach, part of the municipality of Maissau in Lower Austria, Austria. The castle and the adjacent buildings of the former farmstead are listed as historical monuments.
History+
A first documented mention of a fortified house belonging to the Lords of Durrinbach dates back to the mid-12th century. In 1531, a castle was sold, which may have emerged from this fortified house. The buyer was Melchior Hohberg, who redesigned the moated castle. An ornate cellar entrance bearing the year 1556 dates from this period. Later, Georg Bayr, lessee of the imperial key office in Krems, acquired the property and had an extension built in 1578. After inheritance disputes, the castle came into the possession of Rudolf von Innpruck.
