In Unterellen stands Unterellen Castle, a late medieval complex. Originally conceived as a defensive structure, it was transformed by the noble family of Herda into one of their family residences and now serves a special purpose.

History+

As early as the 15th century, the noble family of Herda began to expand the medieval defensive complex into an additional family seat. In the 20th century, large parts of the original castle complex were abandoned and demolished after structural decay, leading to a reduction in its extent.

Unterellen Castle is located in Unterellen in the Wartburgkreis, a region in Thuringia, Germany. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 225 meters above sea level.
