Unterfinningen Castle

In Unterfinningen, a district in the Dillingen an der Donau region of Bavaria, stands Unterfinningen Castle. The building, once a moated castle whose moat was leveled, now houses a restaurant and served as a manorial seat.

The origins of the estate date back a long way; a predecessor building was already mentioned in documents in 1458 as a "castrum fossatum". For over four centuries, it served the Augsburg monastery of St. Ulrich and Afra as the central judicial and administrative seat for its manorial court. The current small castle was built around 1530 and is a three-story building with a gabled roof and an Augsburg flat oriel on the north gable. After the secularization in 1803, the castle fell to the state. Since 1929, it has been owned by the Brugger family.
