Unterleinleiter Castle
Unterleinleiter Castle is a castle in Unterleinleiter in Upper Franconia. The building has 29 rooms and is currently privately inhabited.
The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1372. After its reconstruction following its destruction in the German Peasants' War in 1523, it was again destroyed by a major fire in 1690 and rebuilt. It passed to the Barons of Seckendorff in 1757 and received its current form around 1770. The family gave up residence in 1952. In the subsequent period until the 1980s, the entire area was run as a therapeutic children's home "Schloss Borgehnstein", which as a successor company at a new location on Störnhof Mountain in Unterleinleiter still exists today. From 1986, the castle and the castle park were restored.
Castle Park+
Unterleinleiter Castle has a 17-hectare castle park, which was laid out in baroque style after the Thirty Years' War. After the castle and park passed into private ownership in 1985, the park was partially reconstructed with the help of old plans. The park contains numerous, mostly modern works of art (including sculptures by the sculptor Harro Frey) as well as a sandstone building, which was used as a tea house in earlier times. In the summer months, the castle park is used for cultural events.
Also located in the castle park is a deep well with a pump house for the public drinking water supply of the village.
