Unterweilbach Castle

Schloss Maxlrain+
The original castle stood at a different location and was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. In 1692, the present castle was built on the foundations of a 13th-century residential castle/fortified church by the Electoral Court Councillor Johann Georg von Mandl. Further alterations took place in the 18th century. Owners included the Counts of Spreti and the family of Trebra-Lindenau.
The building today+
The building is a four-winged complex around a rectangular courtyard. The main wing is in the south. The three-story building has a hipped roof. The facades are structured by pilasters and cornices. The castle chapel is located in the east wing.
Castle Chapel St. Georg
The castle chapel was built in 1697 and is dedicated to St. George. The chapel is decorated with frescoes and stucco work. The altar dates from the 18th century.
Castle Garden
The castle garden was laid out in the 18th century as a baroque garden. In the 19th century, it was transformed into an English landscape garden. Today, the garden is open to the public and offers a variety of plants and trees.
Current use+
The castle is privately owned and is used as a residence. Parts of the castle are used for events and conferences. The castle chapel is regularly used for church services.
