Urstein Castle

The first documented mention of the locality Urstan occurred in 1151, when Archbishop Eberhard I transferred a manse to the Salzburg Cathedral Chapter. In 1461, Leonhard Golser appeared as the first owner to name himself after Urstein. Later, the estate passed to Cristan Diether, whose daughter Rosina brought it into her marriage with Paul Altmann around 1530. Through several generations of the Altmann family, Urstein eventually came into the possession of Veit Matthias Spindler von Hofegg through marriage, and later to the Dückher von Haslau family, who owned the castle until 1837. Under Franz Dückher von Haslau, the castle was redesigned in the style of a typical Salzburg industrialist's residence with four corner towers.
