History+

The origins of Vapnö date back to 1312, when it was first mentioned as property of the Ribbing family. In 1337, Sigvid Ribbing and his wife Martha Ulfsdotter were the owners. Through Peter Sigvidsson Ribbing, the estate passed into the possession of Vadstena Abbey in 1379. Later, in 1409, Abraham Brodersohn was named as owner, followed by his widow Cecilia Niclisdotter in 1419. In 1661, Gustaf Otto Stenbock acquired the castle, and it later passed to Magnus Stenbock. A significant turning point occurred in 1741 when Georg Bogislaus Staël von Holstein purchased the estate. His descendants still inhabit the castle today, with Erica Staël von Holstein being the current owner. The present castle building was erected in 1733 on the foundations of an older predecessor.
