Vaumarcus Castle

The first mention of Vaumarcus Castle dates back to 1285. In 1308, the property, which was in poor condition at the time, came into the possession of the Counts of Neuchâtel, who extensively restored it. A decisive turning point occurred in 1476 when it was set on fire after the Battle of Grandson. The then lord of the castle, a member of a collateral line of the Counts of Neuchâtel, had granted refuge to Charles the Bold. Following this event, the castle was rebuilt. In 1773, a newer part of the castle with a spacious terrace was added. An extensive restoration took place in the mid-20th century.
