Vaumarcus Castle

Vaumarcus Castle is mentioned as early as 1285. In 1308, the poorly maintained castle came into the possession of the Counts of Neuchâtel, who restored it. Because the lord of the castle, who belonged to a collateral line of the Counts of Neuchâtel, provided refuge to Charles the Bold, the castle was set on fire in 1476 after the Battle of Grandson. It was rebuilt after 1476. The newer part of the castle with a large terrace was added in 1773. The castle, extensively restored in the mid-20th century, now houses the municipal administration and also serves as a gastronomic and cultural center.
