Vehn Castle

Vehn Castle is a castle on the edge of the forest in Löhndorf, a district of Sinzig in the Ahrweiler district (Rhineland-Palatinate). The castle is a protected monument.

The first mention of Vehn is handed down to us in 1019 through a deed of gift from Archbishop Heribert of Cologne, who bequeathed estates to Deutz Monastery. After 1266, the estate with its properties was initially granted as a fief to the Burgraves of Landskron, after 1370 to the Lords Colve of Ahrweiler, and finally in 1564 to Wilhelm von Orsbeck.

The north wing of this two-wing complex bears the year 1753, with major renovations carried out in the first half of the 19th century. Stepped gables were added and part of the complex was plastered. The main wing has a coat of arms of the von Hocherbach family, who were feudal lords from 1676 to 1795, and a four-sided roof turret at the entrance. During the French rule in the Rhineland, the ecclesiastical estates were confiscated and auctioned off by the French state. The castle was acquired by Bahlsen in 1965 and is owned by an inheritance community of the von Nordeck and Bahlsen families.
