In Lower Saxony, Veltheim Castle is a historic complex closely linked to the von Veltheim family. Originally built as a moated castle, it was transformed into a palace and remains in private ownership to this day.

History+

The von Veltheim family, first documented in 1160, were the original builders of Veltheim moated castle. In 1430, the castle suffered damage from citizens of Braunschweig who resisted the obstruction of their trade routes. After this destruction, the complex was sold to the von Honrodt family around 1494.
