In Vetschau/Spreewald in Brandenburg stands Vetschau Castle, a Renaissance building. It serves today as a center for cultural events and houses a museum.

History+

The origins of the current castle date back to the 10th century, when Margrave Gero had a moated castle built on the remains of a Slavic ring fort at this site. This castle, which stood on oak piles, served to control important trade routes. In 1538, Eustachius I von Schlieben acquired the property. He had the old castle demolished and began construction of the current Renaissance castle around 1540. After changing owners, the castle received its characteristic tower around 1720.
