Vinsebeck Castle

The construction of Schloss Vinsebeck took place in 1720. The patron was Drost Johann Friedrich Ignaz, who commissioned the castle together with his three brothers Ferdinand Ernst Adam, Adolph Franz Friedrich, and Mauritz Lothar von der Lippe, all canons in Paderborn. Justus Wehmer was responsible for the architectural design. The estate served as a summer residence for the Paderborn canons. After the male Vinsebeck line of the von der Lippe family died out in 1767, the castle passed to Theresia von der Lippe, who was married to Hermann Werner von der Asseburg zu Hinnenburg. Her daughter Antonette, married to Johann Ignatz Graf Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht, subsequently inherited the castle. A legal dispute lasting over 40 years concerning the lordship of Vinsebeck, initiated by the Wintrup line, was unsuccessful. Today, the castle is owned by Simeon Graf Wolff Metternich.
