In Virnsberg, a village in the Frankenhöhe Nature Park, stands a castle that combines the characteristics of a hilltop castle with those of a moated castle. It is situated northwest above the village of the same name.

History+

The origins of Virnsberg Castle date back to 1235, when the castle was first mentioned in documents. For a long time, the complex was owned by the Teutonic Order and formed a part of the Teutonic Bailiwick of Franconia.
