Vischel Castle

The origins of today's Vischel Castle may trace back to a moated castle from the 9th century. In the Prüm Urbarium, a list of properties of Prüm Abbey from 893, estates and a manor house in Vischel are mentioned. In the 11th century, the abbey exchanged these properties with the Counts of Are. The then Vischel Castle was destroyed in 1115. In 1246, the property came into the possession of the Electorate of Cologne through a donation, which remained the owner until the occupation of the Left Bank of the Rhine by French troops in 1794. The current moated castle, possibly standing on the old foundations, was built around 1829.
