Vöstenhof Castle

The origins of Vöstenhof date back to the 13th century, when a fortification was likely built there. In 1381, Albero Stuchs von Trautmannsdorf sold the complex to Duke Albrecht III. Shortly thereafter, in 1387, the dominion passed to Johann von Liechtenstein, but was soon managed directly by princely administrators again. From 1483, Martin Neidegger was enfeoffed with Vöstenhof, which remained in his family's possession until 1592 and was known during this period as “Hoff zu Neydeckh”. In 1592, Hieronymus Wurmbrandt, hereditary master of the kitchen in Styria, acquired the castle for 13,000 guilders and had it converted into a Renaissance castle five years later, in 1597. From 1621 to 1912, the castle was owned by the Counts Hoyos, who allowed it to fall into disrepair in the 19th century.
