In the municipality of Vogelsang-Warsin in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district stands Vogelsang Castle, a structure in the Tudor Gothic style. The three-story castle with its octagonal corner towers and crenellated superstructure is a striking example of Neo-Gothic architecture in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

History+

The origins of the current castle date back to 1711, when Bernd Friedrich von Enckefort had a two-story manor house built on the foundations of a former castle. Between 1845 and 1847, this manor house was replaced by a new building in the Neo-Gothic style under Eduard Friedrich von Enckefort, with plans by Eduard Knoblauch and Karl Friedrich Schinkel. After a fire in 1937, the building received an additional mezzanine floor, with the renovation carried out in a simpler style. Eduard Friedrich von Enckevort, the last lord of the castle from this family, fell in World War I in 1914.
