Vollenschier Castle (Vollenschier)
Vollenschier Castle is a castle-like residential building in Vollenschier, a village belonging to the Wittenmoor district of Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt.
History and Architecture+
The building, also known as Vollenschier Manor House, was built in 1869. The builders were the siblings von Kröchern, and Conrad Wilhelm Hase served as the architect. The estate also includes the nearby Vollenschier Estate Church, also designed by Hase, and the Vollenschier Manor House.
The structure was built as a historicizing brick building with sparse Neo-Gothic elements. Two stories and an attic rise above a high-rising cellar. The facade is structured by three asymmetrically distributed risalits, which also differ in width and depth.
On the west wing of the house is a terrace lined with arches and columns. Inside, stucco ceilings and old doors and windows have been preserved. The upper floor is kept simpler. A landscape park with a pond borders the west and south sides of the building.
The house was inhabited until about 1990 and has been vacant since then. Currently (as of 2010), it is in need of renovation.
