Vollrads Castle
Schloss Vollrads is a historic estate in the Rheingau, a moated castle centered around a residential tower.
History+
The origins of the castle date back to the 13th century, when a knight named Vollradus in Winkela was mentioned. The core structure of the current castle, a massive residential tower, was built in the early 14th century as a moated castle and was owned by the Greiffenclau family. An octagonal stair tower was added in 1471, and in 1620, the keep received a bay window. In 1684, Georg Phillip Greiffenclau von Vollrads had the two-winged manor house built, which was supplemented around 1700 by outbuildings and a baroque dome on the water tower.
