Vortlage Castle (Lengerich)

In the south of Lengerich, on the road towards Ladbergen, lies the former knight's seat "Haus Vortlage", which has been documented since the 13th century as a fortified house on a motte (earthen mound surrounded by a moat) with a wooden palisade fence. Over the centuries, the manor was relocated to its current site at the beginning of the 18th century, abandoning the old locations. The field name "Zur alten Vortlage" (To the old Vortlage) still commemorates this today.

In 1991, the scenically situated Haus Vortlage - also simply called "Vortlage" - consisting of a mill, oak avenue, moat, and main house (manor farm and lord's seat), could look back on its 700-year existence.

The private complex with the restored mill can only be viewed from the outside, but with the classicist design language of the main house and the gate system from 1730, it clearly offers an impression of aristocratic living culture of bygone days.
