In Ostallgäu, Bavaria, Waal Castle stands on an elevation of approximately 655 meters above sea level. It is an example of the transformation from a medieval castle to a residence and is currently privately owned.

History+

The castle's origins trace back to the 12th century, when a knight from Waal commissioned a fortress on this site. In 1397, the complex suffered damage during the War of the Cities at the hands of the Augsburgers but was subsequently rebuilt. Portions of the original structure are still visible in the west wing today.
