Wackerstein Castle is situated on a steep cliff overlooking the Danube in the village of Wackerstein (Pförring) in the district of Eichstätt. The deconsecrated castle chapel and the defensive walls date back to the Middle Ages.

The origin of the castle goes back to a fortress from the 9th century. In 1781, the current two-wing complex was built by Anton Freiherr von Waldenspan. After the death of the Freiherr, the building passed into the hands of his granddaughter, Countess von Buttler. In 1811, she sold the castle to Friedrich Freiherr von Jordan, who in 1830 sold his manorial rights to the state. The castle then passed into private ownership.

In 1989, the castle was renovated and condominiums were built within it.
